had already done good work and had established friendly relation/with similar institutions which shortly will be revived at amoy and probably at rochow, Though the possibilities of original work in Botany and other branches of Zoology are limited because the range of ty, es and phenonema of urea is narrow, there is hope for real contributions

to knowledge for practical assistance for the very important but undeveloped fishing industry, from the work of the new Institute. It is likely to play no small part in replac- ing the Japanese,by a Chinese,deep-sea trawling industry in

these watery.

The scheme of the Research Institute makes provision for research fellowships, which it is hoped hereafter to increase in numbers, and for vacation courses for Chinese scientific workers.

Faculty of Medicine:

In Medicine a good standard has been maintained throughout the history of the University and there is evidence that the School has established a high reputation.. Ita graduates are in general and specialist practice in

Hong Kong, China, kalaya and the Dutch East Indies.

We favour the continuance of the scheme whereby the University professors of Surgery, medicine and Gynecology are also Government consultants and the .rofessor of Pathology shares in the work of the Queen Mary (Government; Hospital which is the chief teaching hospital for University students.

Anatomy:

This Department deals also with the teaching of Histology and Embryology, and finds it easy to obtain ample teaching material for all parts of its work.
